Beginning Jan. 1, phased renovations are expected to cause disruptions and the suspension of various community programs at 4 Wing’s Colonel JJ Parr Sports Center for roughly six months.
COLD LAKES – The year ahead will mark several upgrades to 4 Wing’s Colonel JJ Parr Sports Center but will result in disruptions to gymnasium and pool access starting as early as Jan. 1, 2023.
In early October, 4 Wing Cold Lake announced that the first phase of a multi-phase project would see the replacement of existing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems throughout the Col JJ Parr Sports Centre.
These facility upgrades have and will continue to cause extended closures in various areas of the facility for the foreseeable future.
The next phases of this project are set to begin Jan. 1, 2023, with the closure of the sport center’s gymnasium and a small portion of the existing weight room, for at least three months.
Renovations are expected to impact the Aquatics Center beginning Feb. 12, 2023.
“With these closures, all community programming normally occurring within these areas will be suspended, for a minimum of six months,” states Capt. Sophie Quemeneur, the 4th Wing Cold Lake Public Affairs Officer.
“While these interruptions are unfortunate, we do appreciate your understanding of the necessity to improve the facility for our current and future users.”
The military base’s public affairs department states they are committed to keeping the public updated on any changes to programming or services that will impact access to the swimming pool.
Changes will be communicated as soon as reasonably possible, with the goal of minimizing the impact where possible, stated the Public Affairs Officer.
