Erin Napier Celebrates ‘Formal And Quirky’ Stairway in Newly Renovated Home

Erin Napier and husband Ben are all about renovating and remodeling on their HGTV show HOME TOWN, but when it comes to their own house, the Napiers left one special part of the house untouched.
Erin shared a photo of the stairway and bannister that was put in by the original home owner, with framed, hand-drawn pictures of the couple’s daughters.
The couple have talked about their home’s origins before. In Season 6 of HOME TOWN, the Napiers shared that the house was built by a returning WWI veteran who loved the British architecture and design he saw while in England.
The former home owner also made sure to include a special tribute to his wife when creating the bannister for the house’s staircase.
“We’ve been telling the wife of the man who built our house to play the lyre so he made a stencil and hand carved each banister rail for her,” Erin wrote in an Instagram caption. “It’s very formal and quirky, to be sure, but I don’t have the heart to change what Mrs. Moore must have loved so much.”
She continued, “Instead, we used the girls’ art and had it framed professionally by @napierframeslaurel so it feels like an art gallery and makes the very formal stairwell feel more like us: casual and unexpected.”

Erin and Ben Napier are taking fans inside their “dream house,” showing off the renovations that made it perfect for their family of four.
The couple purchased the house when Erin was pregnant with their second daughter Mae.
“It’s unbelievably well built,” Ben said of the house. “Supposedly, all the wood in the whole house—the floors, the trim, the beams—was cut and milled on the property. And that’s pretty cool for me as a woodworker.
“One reason we had to get this house was its very British look,” Erin added. “It feels as though you’ve crossed the ocean and you’re not in Mississippi anymore. It’s like a vacation for us. All the cozy rooms with dark wood make it seem as if you’re sitting beside a fire—that is the dream for me. I love this style so, so much.”
The 1930s Tudor home was perfect for their growing family, but the interior needed a little work, including a more functional kitchen.
The new kitchen is open and sunny, with lots of windows and personal touches.
“This is the only room we use constantly,” Erin said of the room. “It’s our favorite place. Everything happens here.”
The rest of the house is full of little personal details, from family photos to a framed Duke University jersey (Ben’s father attended the school).
“When you walk in the back door of my mama’s house, it’s family history,” Erin said, referring to her mom’s hallway full of family pictures. She did the same in the couple’s new home. “I just had to do this because it’s my favorite thing about my parents’ house—and it always has been.”
