The Greens and Blues in This House Are Anything but Predictable

When it comes to decorating your home, blue and green are pretty safe batches for adding a dose of color while still keeping your space feeling like a retreat. Colors like red and yellow are associated with excitement and passion, while blue and green are associated with nature (think: the hues found near an ocean, forest or meadow). In today’s hectic world where we’re required to be “on” all the time—at work, on our phones and more—it can be a nice reprieve to come home to a calming color scheme that brings a bit of the natural world inside our four walls.

While we’ll never give up completely on our bold colors (after all, this is VERANDA), we’re also loving the major moment that blue and green are having in interiors right now. Most recently at the Design Social House in Atlanta, nearly every room had some aspect of blue and/or green in it.

This is significant given that the home owner, Gregg Irby, who owns the Gregg Irby Gallery in Atlanta, worked with 23 different creatives with vastly different design aesthetics. (You can find out more about these brands and makers via Design Social.)

Here, some of our favorite ways that blue and green were used throughout this house. We’re predicting this color combination’s comeback will have major staying power.

Living Room

This room is a master class on mixing blue and green colors and patterns. The Bergere chair is covered in Casa Branca fabric, while the wing chair across features a Ferrick Mason fabric (with a coordinating Casa Branca pillow).

The bench fabric and shades (Marika Meyer) bring in a brighter blue hue, and the fabric on pillows and bench (Casa by PC and Serena Dugan) pick up the pale lavender found throughout the room. Rusty red Shin toaster chairs get a fun pillow treatment with fabric from Mally Skok.

This cozy vignette in the living room features a table and scalloped Biedermeier chairs covered in a blue and white abstract animal motif fabric (CW Stockwell). The pale blue vase on the table is from Anyon Atelier.

Dining Room

Verdant vines crawl up the dining room’s wallpaper (Gregg Irby), while patterned drapes (Leah O’Connell Textiles) add even more visual interest. The green and blue tablescape seamlessly ties everything together (place mats by Gramercy Home; vase from Anyon Atelier).

The robin’s egg blue kitchen boasts plenty of natural light from a large window, which is covered in a custom shade (Serena Dugan Studio). The green vase is from Half Past Seven Home.

Bar

How fun is this bar clad in marbled wallpaper (Rule of Three Studio)? We love the moody blue cabinets adorned with playful gold tiger pulls. Champagne bucket by Half Past Seven; coupes by Anyon Atelier; vintage barware from J. Earl and Sons.

Outside Patio

Sleek white Mckinnon and Harris furniture adorns the patio. The green and blue pillows from CW Stockwell x Sunbrella cozy things up and make this outdoor room perfect for alfresco cocktails.

Green and blue shines in this sunroom, thanks to glossy painted doors, a console covered in fabric from CW Stockwell, and pillows covered in fabric from Schuyler Samperton Textiles.

Primary Bedroom

Pops of orange appear again in the primary bedroom’s linens (Gramercy Home) and bolster pillow fabric (Luru Home). The blue wallpaper (Casa by PC) makes these sleeping quarters feel like a tropical retreat—and we love its large-scale palm trees.

Powder Baths

This moody bathroom features dark blue koi fish-embellished wallpaper from Gregg Irby. A glass vase (Anyon Atelier) holds brightly colored blooms. We love that the typical mirror above the vanity was eschewed in favor of a window that lets in plenty of natural light.

Family Room

This green and blue room is far from predictable, thanks to plenty of pattern play. Bamboo-like fabric from Casa Branca adorns the round table skirt, curtains and pillows, while a fun blue fabric (Peter Dunham Textiles) on the two club chairs pops against the hunter green couch. Wallpaper from Aux Abris was applied to the lampshades for a bright and airy treatment, and fabric from Lea Rutledge covers the smaller pillows. White lacquer tray, Anyon Atelier.

Primary Bathroom

The primary bathroom feels extra special, thanks to the often-overlooked details like fine art, an antique seafoam green chair and a sky blue painted door.

Bedrooms

This bedroom features icy blue wallpaper (Alex Conroy Textiles) that resembles Portuguese tiles. The color is mirrored throughout the room in the art, bedding, and built-in closet paint color. Pops of royal blue in the headboard and lamps keep things from feeling too monotonous.

Her Dressing Room

Though this room is pink all over (wallpaper from Victoria Larson; desk by Dunes and Duchess), the verdant view outside offers a beautiful contrast and pop of bright green.

Study

Wallpaper and corresponding fabric from Ferrick Mason establish for the color scheme of this study with punches of blue, green and orange. The orange fabric on shades (Schuyler Samperton) keeps the space from feeling too matchy-matchy.

Guest Houses

The stars of this guest house are undoubtably the green and blue pawpaw wallpaper from Mazy Path and the Barbie pink fabric from Mally Skok covering the ottoman.
